Misconceptions

Clinical Hypnotherapy is actually a very different experience to most people’s expectations.

The misconceived media or entertainment depiction of hypnosis, where the “victim” is “humiliated”, being unable to resist the “power” of the Stage Hypnotist actually bares no relation to a professional Hypnotherapy experience. All participants have agreed to take part in Stage Hypnosis, on a voluntary basis and are aware that they will be used to entertain the audience. They know exactly what they are letting themselves in for. Only the most suggestible or “willing” subjects are chosen and the audience dynamics often have a considerable influence on the experience.

We don't really use a watch !!During Clinical Hypnotherapy, you are not asleep in the normal sense, but enter a subtly altered state of consciousness where changes can easily be made to induce healing, increase self-awareness and access many more positive assertions.

It allows you to accept certain thoughts that will be positive and beneficial to you, which in turn change your attitude. In this way, you can do the things you want to do with new clarity and confidence.

You can not be made to accept ideas or actions that are fundamentally against your will. Neither will you experience amnesia or memory loss, unless it is specifically required as part of the therapy.

Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation within the body, and a state of heightened awareness within the mind. Hypnotherapy is the use of a variety of therapy techniques and suggestion metaphors, that are delivered whist the patient is in the Hypnotic state of relaxation, during which they are more responsive to the therapy.

The skill of the Clinical Hypnotherapist, is in using the most appropriate techniques for you, working with you in partnership to help “re-program” those parts of your mind that are working against your goals.

Problem areas particularly suited to treatment by Hypnotherapy include, Addictions, Habits, Stress Related Conditions, Fears and Phobias, Performance Anxieties, Inhibitions and Lack of Confidence.

Most people can experience sufficient states of relaxation for the therapy to work. As part of the therapy, we may also teach you self-hypnosis techniques if appropriate, with which you can continue to re-enforce the new behaviours.

One of the major benefits of Clinical Hypnotherapy is that it is a “Brief Therapy”. Most treatments will be effective after only a few sessions.
